Today I noticed a trio of articles by Mr Miroslav Pivoda, and I must say, I have never read anything quite like it! Thirty years ago, when machine learning and neural networks were still in their infancy, expert systems reigned supreme in the realm of AI. People believed that they could describe the complex causality of the world using rules like – if A then B. It soon became clear, however, that the complexity of the world was far too intricate for such a primitive approach.
Yet, there has been an extraordinarily ambitious project in artificial intelligence in the Czech Republic for the past 30 years, known as OLS! For historians of Czech AI and lovers of curiosities, it is essential to take a look at these three articles:
