Today I Noticed a Trio of Articles by Mr Miroslav Pivoda and I Must Say, I've Never Read Anything Like It!

Today I noticed a trio of articles by Mr Miroslav Pivoda and I must say, I've never read anything like it! Thirty years ago, when machine learning and neural networks were still in their infancy, expert systems ruled the realm of AI. People believed they could describe the complex causality of the world using rules like – if A then B. It soon became clear that the complexity of the world was far too intricate for such a primitive approach.

The Meeting of Artificial Intelligence and Philosophy Enthusiasts – Digital Philosophy – is just around the corner! The planned agenda includes lectures and a debate with students. It will be a unique opportunity to pose questions to many thinkers who are long gone. The concluding discussion should also be interesting.

"True AI should understand the relationship between cause and effect," says Judea Pearl…

"True AI should understand the relationship between cause and effect," says Judea Pearl, a pioneer in artificial intelligence. Let's teach machines to understand the question "Why?". While in the 1980s we created programmes that primarily calculated probabilities (such as Bayesian networks), this is no longer sufficient.

Great news! OpenAI has finally released its largest XLGPT-2 model with 1.5 billion…

Great news! OpenAI has finally released its largest XLGPT-2 model with 1.5 billion parameters and 48 layers. I like that people find the outputs of GPT-2 to be very convincing. The largest model has a 'credibility score' of 6.91 out of 10. That's just a little more than the outputs from the 774M model (6.72) and significantly more than the medium model 355M (6.07). The difference between the large and super large model is therefore relatively small (goodness, what a sentence:)). This was probably the last proverbial straw that led OpenAI to release the XL model.
