A New AI Hype Cycle from Gartner is Out

According to Gartner, the number of companies that have implemented AI has increased from 4% to 14% in the past year! Both proprietary ML solutions and the use of AutoML or Cloud AI services are becoming popular. In light of the success of Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, conversational artificial intelligence is gaining traction. Meanwhile, newer technologies such as Edge AI, Explainable AI, Intelligent Applications, and Augmented Intelligence are also starting to emerge.

"Intelligent Applications" arise from the demand of organisations to integrate AI technologies into their enterprise applications. Through intelligent automation, they support or replace human activity, leading to increased productivity.

I am particularly fond of the concept of "Augmented Intelligence." It refers to the partnership between humans and artificial intelligence, where collaboration with AI enhances cognitive performance. Humans improve in what they already do, reduce the number of errors they make, and decrease the share of tedious routine work, allowing them to devote more energy to customer interaction. The efficiency of machines, complemented by the human touch and common sense, creates an unbeatable combination.
