On Tuesday, 7th February 2023, Microsoft unveiled the new Bing. When you now click on chat in the Bing browser, you have the option to sign up for the waiting list for the chat mode (something akin to ChatGPT):

Clearly, Microsoft's long-standing collaboration with OpenAI is on the right track. You can find several examples on the web, but I look forward to trying it out personally.
Today, Google strikes back. It is introducing the long-awaited project Bard. According to Google, the issue with AI chatbots is that there is not always one correct answer (the NORA problem – No One Right Answer), and thus Bard will operate similarly to Bing's plans. The new search engine will display the AI-generated response and below it the usual Google results, as we are accustomed to, to satisfy all types of users. Moreover, it has also left room for advertising and monetisation. Bard will be built on the LaMDA model (which it developed back in 2021, but has yet to make available to us, despite our long wait on the waiting list).
Furthermore, we can hopefully look forward to a better translator from Google, one that works with context. The traditional one is already lagging behind Deepl. Unfortunately, the new translation modules currently only concern a few languages (English, German, French, Spanish, and Japanese).
