Artificial Intelligence Will Not Transform Most Industries in the Foreseeable Future

According to Alexander Linden, Vice President of Research at Gartner, artificial intelligence will not significantly transform most industries in the foreseeable future. However, he expects AI to contribute significantly to their business outcomes through cost savings, increased turnover, or both. This was stated last Wednesday at the Day of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning organised by Gartner.

Personally, I believe this is fundamentally at odds with AI guru Andrew Ng, who often promotes the saying that "AI is the new electricity." Ng frequently presents this in the context that just as the rise of electricity began to change every significant industry a century ago, AI will now do the same. He primarily speaks about deep learning (but also other AI directions, as you will see in the short video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQK4ZY_gwKI).

Which side of the opinion are you on? Will AI change the world in the same way electricity did, or will it merely contribute to business outcomes?
