The Global Race in Robotics: Will Europe Fall Behind the USA and China in Artificial Intelligence?

“Focusing on the human being” is the cornerstone of the European Union's approach to establishing rules for the use of artificial intelligence. However, some warn that this phrase may hinder the utilisation of artificial intelligence in Europe. For instance, there are discussions about restricting the use of citizen data out of fear of misuse. There is a risk that the old continent may be outpaced by China and the United States.

Twenty-five per cent of companies worldwide engaged in artificial intelligence are based in Europe. In the USA, this figure is 28 per cent, while in China it stands at 17. European researchers are also producing and publishing the highest number of studies on artificial intelligence globally!

However, Europe is beginning to lag significantly behind in investments in the development of artificial intelligence, as well as in patents, where it has been overtaken by both the USA and China.

European lawmakers aim to prevent artificial intelligence from exhibiting biases through new regulations and to ensure that it adheres to principles of fair treatment for all individuals. According to public opinion polls, nine out of ten EU citizens support a cautious approach to artificial intelligence. At the same time, six out of ten Europeans have a positive view of robots and artificial intelligence. It greatly depends on how you ask people :)
