Doctors Yearn for Surgical Robots Equipped with a Sense of Touch

Robot-assisted surgeries are the future of medicine. However, current machines still have a significant disadvantage.

“Robots offer high-definition imaging and fine control, but I can’t feel if I’m damaging something by pulling on tissues… The result is a serious limitation, and most operations are too difficult. It’s like trying to write without feeling the pen or paper,” says cardiothoracic surgeon Richard Trimlett in an interview with The Financial Times.
